There was a purpose behind this photo when I created it.

When I did this photo, it was not meant to portray her as being evil or dark. The objective was simple: A broken and battered female and her transition. Above this photo rests someone we all know: Demetria Devonne Lovato. This photo represents a before and after outlook. The majority of her face is black because of the large amount of time she’s spent struggling with issues that many teens her age, under, and above are also coping with. Demi’s was years worth, hence the black shade covering such a HUGE percentage of her face. The color, of course, represents the after (which is a more vibrant and healing recovery path she now steps into after having experienced multiple downfalls and depression). A once was caterpillar evolved into a butterfly. I am so proud of her ongoing recovery and her ability to drive on the impulse to overcome her past. She’s moving forward.
